This main-floor transformation was guided by a desire to create a more cohesive, elevated setting for everyday family life and entertaining—one that felt naturally connected to the clients’ recently renovated kitchen while bringing a fresh perspective to the spaces beyond it.

The design takes an updated transitional approach, balancing warm, layered colour palettes with clean lines and timeless forms. More detailed and formal elements were introduced selectively, adding richness and architectural character without overwhelming the home. The result is a considered balance of traditional influence and modern simplicity.

In the family room, furnishings alone would not have achieved the desired transformation. We reconfigured the adjoining wall to improve the room’s proportions, then introduced a completely new fireplace framed by custom millwork. A thoughtfully planned dual-TV arrangement accommodates different viewing preferences and multi-event days, while a Frame TV allows the space to feel more like a living environment when the screen is not in use.

The adjoining living and dining rooms were designed with both everyday living and generous entertaining in mind. A dining table comfortably seats eight for daily use and expands to accommodate sixteen guests, complemented by a customized stone-topped sideboard that doubles as a practical serving surface. Chair rail, textured wallpaper, wall sconces, layered lighting and tailored window treatments bring warmth and depth to the rooms. In the living room, rather than adding furnishings for the sake of filling the space, we retained the clients’ piano and thoughtfully repurposed the existing host and hostess chairs as flexible guest seating.

Niche Decor provided full-service interior design for the spaces, from space planning, construction and millwork direction to finish selections, lighting, window treatments, custom furnishings, procurement, styling and final installation. The result is a cohesive, highly personal main floor that balances timeless design with updated transitional details, designed around everyday comfort and generous entertaining.
